Certificate in Substance Abuse Intervention in Healthcare
The Nursing Program in collaboration with the Addiction Studies Program at GSU is pleased to be offering a new curriculum leading to a Certificate in Substance Abuse Intervention in Healthcare. This program which has been funded by a grant from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) is designed for practicing nurses. The certificate is comprised of four 3-credit hour courses (NURS 550, NURS 551, NURS 552 and NURS 553). Contact hours for those nurses wishing to pursue continuing education contact hours in lieu of academic credit have been approved by the Illinois Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The undergraduate student requirements are to have completed half of the nursing curriculum; have at least a GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 grading scale); rank in the upper 35 percentile of the graduating class; and meet the expectations of academic integrity.
The graduate student requirements are to have completed one-fourth of the nursing curriculum; have at least a GPA of 3.5 (based on a 4.0 grading scale); and meet the expectations of academic integrity.

Winter 2007 Tuition Waiver Information
Winter 2007 Tuition Waivers. Undergraduate and Graduate Tuition Waivers (1 each) are available for the Winter 2007 trimester. Applications can be obtained either outside the Department of Nursing or with the Department’s Secretary. The Nursing Faculty selects the tuition waiver recipients. A waiver gives the student a tuition-free trimester of classes; the student is responsible for the fees. The eligibility for the undergraduate and graduate tuition waivers is slightly different so please pick up the appropriate forms. Please submit your applications to your Academic Advisor, Linda McCann by November 1, 2006, the decision will be made no later than November 17, 2006.
