IL Dept. of Health Nursing Education Scholarship Program
The Illinois Department of Public Health Nursing Education Scholarship Program Pursuant to The Nursing Education Scholarship Law (ILCS 975/) for the 2008-2009 Academic Year appliation will be available online at http://app.idph.state.il.us/RuralHealth/nesp/ beginning March 1, 2008. The deadline for the application is May 31, 2008.
The purpose of the program is to increase the number of nurses available for employment in Illinois by offering scholarships to overcome financial barriers to education. With regards to GSU, the program provides financial assistance to qualified individuals pursing a baccalaureate degree or a graduate degree in nursing.
In order to be eligible, an applicant must be:
a resident of Illinois for at least one year prior to application, and be a citizen or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States;
enrolled in or accepted for admission to a nursing program in Illinois that is approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations, Division of Professional Regulations; and
in need of financial assistance based on applicant's 2008-2009 Student Aid Report.

Prof. Comer & Grad Students Attend Clinical Nurse Specialists: Taking the Lead in Healthcare Safety and Quality Conference
On 1-16-08 Faculty member, Shirley Comer, and several students from the GSU master’s degree nursing program, attended a conference entitled, “Clinical Nurse Specialists: Taking the Lead in Healthcare Safety and Quality”. The conference was held at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, Indiana and focused on topics that illustrate the contribution of Clinical Nurse Specialists make to the quality of Patient Care. The conference was sponsored by the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialist. The NACNS is the only national organization exclusively dedicated to CNS practice opportunities and challenges.
