ICCB Creates Basic Skills Test Prep Online Resource

The Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) is excited to announce the launch of a new web resource for education students to help study for the Illinois Basic Skills Test. The Basic Skills Test Preparation (BST-Prep) is an online study guide created for program candidates. This study guide was developed based on materials created by a consortium of Illinois community colleges. The participating colleges were Harper College, Illinois Valley Community College, Kishwaukee College, Moraine Valley Community College, Prairie State College and Truman College .

The purpose is to assist education candidates in becoming familiar with the Illinois Learning Standards and to develop the competencies necessary to successfully pass the Basic Skills Test. This study guide is divided into 18 different lessons, one lesson for each standard. Each lesson will provide you with detailed information about each standard and learning activities that will reinforce the concepts being presented. In addition, there are learning reviews and a post test which closely resembles the Basic Skills Test.

Governors State University program candidates have access to this online resource. Click here to get more info about access to the BST-Prep site.

About the Basic Skills Test

A passing score on the Illinois Basic Skills Test is a state requirement for all Illinois certification programs. The Basic Skills Test Preparation site was created to help teacher education students study for and pass the Basic Skills Test (BST). The BST-Prep system is an interactive, web-based curriculum that contains content, examples, and questions for all three sub-areas of the BST (Reading Comprehension, Language Arts, and Mathematics). The BST-Prep site includes a Learning Survey, which is designed to assist you in identifying what areas are your strengths as well as the areas in which you still need to work. We hope you find this online curriculum helpful in your pursuit of passing the Illinois Basic Skills Test.

Note: The Illinois State Board of Education also has a computer-administered practice test called the Basic Skills Diagnostic Practice Test to help you determine if you are ready to take the BST. It can be found at http://www.icts.nesinc.com/IL_practest_opener.asp

Contact your advisor if you have other questions about Illinois certification testing or testing requirements for your GSU program.
