National Board Certification Info Session on Dec 2
The GSU College of Education will host an information session for those teachers who are interested in learning more about National Board Certification. The session will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2006 from 10am until noon in room D34050 on campus at GSU. There is no fee for attending the information session. Please join us! "The South Suburban region has far too few of its superb teachers National Board Certified," said Dr. Karen Peterson, director of GSU's Alternative Teacher Certification program. "We would like to encourage excellent teachers in our districts to consider taking part in the process."
The benefits of National Board certification include:
- Enhancement of teacher effectiveness and student achievement
- Development of teacher leadership skills
- Participation in the Illinois NBPTS professional learning community
- Obtaining the Illinois Master Teacher Certificate
- Annual $3000 stipend (for NBPTS teaching in Illinois public schools for up to 10 years)
- Access to up to an additional $4000 per year for providing mentoring and professional development to Illinois classroom teachers.
GSU will also be offering a Pre-Candidacy Course beginning this spring!!!
- Connect your current teaching practice to National Board Standards and Principles
- Get ready to begin the National Board Certification Process
- Network with other teachers committed to developing as teacher leaders
This 3-credit-hour graduate course will meet biweekly on Monday afternoons from 4:30-7:30pm beginning in March '07 and running until mid-July '07. Additional time will be required for individual and small-group consultation. Please think about joining us!
