Friends of the GSU Library Quilt Bookcase

This shelf of the Friends Quilt Bookcase is almost complete. Titles, which consist of labeling information provided by donors, will be painted on the “spines” of the books. Minor additional details will also be added. When the bookcase is complete, it will contain five shelves. For more information on the quilt and how you can participate, Download the Quilt Flyer.

Friends of the GSU Library Book Sale
The Friends of the GSU Library will be having a book sale on April 15, 2009. The book sale will start with a preview for members of the Friends of the Library. Friends of the GSU Library will be able to purchase books starting at 11:00 a.m. At noon the booksale will be open to everyone. Come early to get the best selection.
The Library Book Sale will be held in the Hall of Governors

Today is the Friends of the GSU Library Book Sale
The book sale will start with a 1 hour preview for the Friends at 11 a.m. (you can join the Friends at that time). At noon the booksale will be opened to the public, with an ending time of 7 p.m.

Friends of the GSU Library Silent Auction
The Friends of the GSU Library will be hosting a silent auction October 13th - October 16th, 2008 in the Hall of Governors, just in time for your holiday shopping convenience. Each day we will be featuring one or two of the items that will available in the auction. A photo will be provided when possible. Today's item is:

Description: 15” x 21” unframed print of “Blue Loop”, number 2/250, includes a certificate of authenticity. One cannot begin to appreciate the beauty and quality of this print until it is seen in person.

Friends of the Governors State University Library Historical Society
The first meeting of the Friends of the Governors State University Library Historical Society will be held on the balcony in the library, from noon to 1 p.m., on Tuesday, October 9.
A university library is an invaluable resource for the collection, preservation, arrangement, and dissemination of historical information. A few good friends working together can help the Governors State University Library resource inform our wider communities with the rich legacy of our shared pasts.

Children Author Wannabe’s
The Children Author Wannabe’s are picking up momentum. Last month we had an illustrator that shared his work with us. Next month we are working on having a publisher come speak with us. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23 from noon to 1 p.m. on the Library Balcony. Friends of the LIbrary Book Sale and Social Hour
The Friends of the GSU Library is having a social on September 19th from 4-6 p.m. on the Library Balcony. Faye Zalecki’s works will be on display, there will be refreshments, and a book sale. The Friends will have access to the book sale from 4-5, and the general public from 5-6. Prices will range from $.50 to $10. To see a sample of Faye's work click here.

New Mystery and Detective Fiction Reading Group
Thank you Dean Casey for the following information:
The Friends of the GSU Library is sponsoring a new mystery and detective fiction reading group called Friends of Mysteries. The first meeting will be Tuesday, April 3, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria Annex. Bring your own lunch. We will discuss “Eisenheim the Illusionist,” a short story by Steven Millhauser in his book, The Barnum Museum: Stories. The book can be purchased on Amazon.com or be ordered at Borders. This short story is the basis for the recent movie, The Illusionist. Additionally, we will decide on mystery and detective fiction that we will read and discuss in future months. Becky Nugent and I will lead April’s discussion. The group is open to Friends of the GSU Library and the larger GSU community. Please join us!
